Unlocking the potential of a data mesh approach requires a business-driven mindset. While the benefits of a decentralized approach to data management are clear, there are several challenges that organizations must navigate. Here’s why starting with business requirements rather than technology capabilities is key to overcoming these challenges and delivering value through innovative data products and services

The data mesh approach promises a more flexible, decentralized approach to data management that can improve agility and speed to market. However, there are several challenges that organizations must navigate when adopting a data mesh approach, particularly when it comes to starting the data domain process from a technology standpoint.

One of the most significant challenges of starting the data mesh process from a technology standpoint is the potential for a mismatch between business requirements and technical capabilities.

If an organization starts with technology and tries to force-fit business processes onto it, the result is likely to be a solution that doesn’t add value and is not aligned with business needs. This approach may lead to data silos, duplication, and inconsistency, which can impede collaboration and hinder innovation.
