In the rapidly evolving landscape of data-driven decision making, the role of data products has become increasingly pivotal. Understanding and optimizing these products requires a keen insight into specific metrics that gauge their effectiveness.

From utility and trust to adoption and quality, each metric offers a unique lens through which the performance of data products can be assessed. Below I list some of the key data product metrics that I use.

  1. Data Product Utility: This metric assesses how effectively a data product addresses specific user needs or business questions. For example, a data analytics tool designed for marketers should provide insights that directly aid in campaign optimization and customer targeting.
  2. Trust: Trust evaluates the accuracy and reliability of a data product. In a healthcare setting, for instance, a data product used for patient diagnostics must have an exceptionally high trust score to ensure patient safety and treatment effectiveness.
  3. Value: Value measures the importance of a data product in business operations or performance optimization. An e-commerce company might use a data product for inventory management; if it significantly reduces overstock and out-of-stock scenarios, its value rating would be high.
