What I Wish I Knew Before Becoming a CTO: Lessons from My Startup Journey
In the thrilling journey of transforming a nascent idea into a flourishing fintech startup, the role I played as the CTO was as rewarding as it was challenging. Looking back at the kaleidoscope of experiences, triumphs, and lessons, I often think about the insights I wish I had when I first stepped into the role of a CTO.
1. Embrace the Unpredictability
When I first started, I had a well-defined roadmap and a clear vision of where I wanted to go. What I hadn’t anticipated was the constant change that a startup goes through. Market trends evolve, customer expectations shift, new technologies emerge, and the business model itself can pivot. As the CTO, you have to be flexible, adaptable, and ready to respond to these changes.
2. Balance between Innovation and Execution
While staying at the forefront of technology and driving innovation is crucial, executing the basics right is equally important. I learned the hard way that chasing after every shiny new technology can distract from the core business needs. Striking a balance between embracing innovation and ensuring robust, reliable solutions is a skill I wish I had mastered earlier.
